Mini Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

What is mini tummy tuck?

A mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is a targeted body contouring procedure designed to address stubborn skin and fat specifically in the lower abdomen (the area just below the belly button). While a full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdominal profile, a mini tummy tuck focuses on the "pooch" or loose skin that sits beneath the navel, which is often resistant to diet and exercise. The procedure utilizes a smaller incision, the belly button remains in its natural position and is not detached or repositioned, and the muscle separation below the belly button can be tightened during the procedure.

What is the main difference between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck?

A full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen, repairing muscles from the ribcage down to the pubic area and repositioning the belly button. A mini tummy tuck focuses strictly on the lower abdomen (the area below the belly button). It requires a shorter incision, involves less extensive muscle repair, and leaves your belly button in its natural position.

Where will the scar be located, and how visible is it?

The incision for a mini tummy tuck is placed very low on the abdomen, just above the pubic region. It is typically shorter than the scar from a traditional tummy tuck and is strategically positioned so that it can be easily hidden beneath most underwear or bikini bottoms.

How long does the recovery process take?

Because a mini tummy tuck is less invasive than a full tummy tuck, the recovery is generally quicker. Most patients feel comfortable returning to light, everyday activities and desk-based jobs within one to two weeks. However, you will still need to avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and intense core workouts for about 4-6 weeks to heal properly.

Can liposuction be combined with a mini tummy tuck?

Absolutely. In fact, it is very common to combine these procedures. Liposuction can be used during your mini tummy tuck to remove stubborn pockets of fat from the flanks (love handles) or the upper abdomen, creating a more cohesive, sculpted result.

Can I still get pregnant after having a mini tummy tuck?

Yes, it is completely safe to become pregnant after recovering from a mini tummy tuck. However, we generally advise patients to wait until their family is complete before undergoing this surgery. Future pregnancies can stretch the abdominal skin and muscles again, potentially reversing the cosmetic improvements of your procedure.
