Labiaplasty

What is labiaplasty?

Whether due to genetics, childbirth, or the natural aging process, for many women, enlarged or asymmetrical labia can lead to physical discomfort during exercise, intimacy, or even while wearing certain clothing. Our approach to labiaplasty is rooted in compassionate, evidence-based care. We focus on restoring comfort and symmetry through precise surgical techniques, ensuring results that feel natural and enhance your daily life.

Will I lose sensation?

This is a common and important question. When performed by experienced plastic surgeons, labiaplasty is designed to preserve the nerves and blood supply to the area. Our precise techniques focus on the labia minora while protecting the clitoral hood and surrounding sensitive tissues to ensure that sensation remains intact.

What can I expect on the day of my surgery?

You will meet the entire surgical team, including the nurses and your surgeon. Markings will be done with you lying down as if you were have a pelvic exam. Local anesthesia will be given slowly. The procedure will only start when you feel complete numbness to ensure you are comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Afterwards, Dr. Yeung or Dr. Mahoney will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care fo your wound as it heals.

When can I exercise or have sex again?

To protect your results and ensure proper healing, we recommend waiting 4 weeks for strenuous exercise (like spinning or running) and 6 weeks for sexual intimacy or tampon use. This allows the delicate tissue to fully remodel and gain strength.

Can I have this done if I plan on having children later?

Yes. A labiaplasty does not affect your fertility or your ability to have a vaginal birth. However, we often discuss with patients that childbirth can potentially alter the tissue again, which is why some women choose to wait until they have completed their family.

How do I go to the bathroom after surgery?

This is a very practical concern. We recommend using a "peri-bottle" with lukewarm water to gently rinse the area after using the bathroom for the first week. You may pat dry the area. This keeps the incisions clean without the need for irritating wiping.
