Hand Rejuvenation

What is hand rejuvenation surgery?

The skin on the back of the hands is naturally very thin and it is uniquely susceptible to the cumulative effects of sun damage and natural volume loss. Over time, your hands often look significantly older than the rest of your body. Hand rejuvenation is a combination of non-surgical or minimally invasive treatments designed to turn back the clock, restoring a plump, smooth, and youthful appearance to the back of your hands.

Should I choose dermal fillers or fat grafting for volume?

This depends on your goals and timeline. Dermal fillers offer immediate, beautiful volume with virtually no downtime. Fat graft transfer involves the use of liposuction to harvest a small amount of your own fat, which is then transferred to your hands. Because it uses your own living tissue, it provides a much more permanent, long-lasting result, though it requires a slightly longer initial recovery.

Can you physically remove the bulging veins on my hands?

Our goal in hand rejuvenation is camouflage, not removal. The prominent veins on the back of your hands are critical for healthy blood flow. We do not remove or collapse these veins. Instead, we safely inject volume (fillers or fat) into the spaces between the veins and tendons. By plumping the surrounding tissue, the veins are naturally hidden beneath the surface, exactly as they were in your twenties.

Will my hands look overly puffy or swollen?

It is completely normal to experience mild swelling for the first 3 to 5 days following any volume injection in the hands. The tissue on the back of the hand is thin and naturally reacts to the treatment. This initial swelling will subside quickly, leaving behind a soft, natural, and beautifully contoured result.

Can I have my hands treated at the same time as my facelift?

Absolutely. In fact, we highly encourage it. Combining hand rejuvenation with facial procedures (like a facelift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty) ensures that your aesthetic results are harmonious. It is incredibly common for our patients to have their hands plumped with fat grafting while they are already comfortably asleep for a larger surgical procedure.

What would you recommend for my sun spots?

To address dark age spots, sun damage, and crepey texture, we recommend advanced laser treatments or chemical peels to brighten and smooth the skin. The number of laser treatments you require depends on the severity of the hyperpigmentation and years of accumulated sun exposure. While you will see a noticeable brightening and clearing after just one session, most patients achieve their absolute best, most flawless results after a series of 2 to 3 sessions spaced several weeks apart.
