Face Lift

What is a face lift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the lower face and neck by addressing sagging skin, deep folds, jowls, and neck laxity. It involves tightening underlying tissues and removing excess skin to create a smoother, more defined, and natural-looking appearance.

The goal is not to change how you look, but to restore a more refreshed, youthful version of yourself.

Where will the incisions be placed?

Typical incisions may include the hairline, in front of the ear, under the ear lobe, behind the ear, and along the hairline in the back.

What can I expect on the day of my surgery?

You will the entire surgical team, including the nurses and anesthesiologists. Markings will be done with you sitting up or lying down. After surgery, you will be monitored closely overnight and be given medications to help control bleeding, your pain, nausea levels, and blood pressure.

What are the risks and complications of surgery?

A facelift is generally a safe procedure, but like all surgery, it carries some risks. These may include bleeding, infection, fluid buildup, swelling, and temporary or permanent changes in skin sensation. Less commonly, patients may experience delayed healing, scarring, hair loss near incision sites, or irregularities in skin appearance. Rare but more serious risks include anesthesia complications, blood clots, or injury to facial nerves that can affect movement. In some cases, results may be asymmetrical or not meet expectations, and revision surgery may be considered.

How long do the results last?

A facelift offers a lasting investment in your appearance, typically providing a refreshed and rejuvenated look for 7 to 15 years. While no procedure can stop the natural aging process, a well-performed facelift—whether using traditional or deep-plane techniques—acts as a "reset" for your facial clock, often helping you look 5 to 10 years younger than your actual age. Even a decade later, most patients find they still look significantly more youthful than if they had never had the surgery at all.
