Earlobe Revision

What is earlobe revision?

Whether caused by years of wearing heavy jewelry, an accidental tear, or the natural stretching that occurs with age, earlobe concerns are more than just aesthetic, they affect your comfort and your ability to express your style. Our approach to earlobe revision combines surgical precision with an artistic eye to restore a natural, youthful shape to the ear. Common concerns we address include elongated, torn, gauged, asymmetric lobes.

Will I have a visible scar?

This is one of the main concerns for our patients. While we cannot avoid a scar to repair and revise the earlobe, Dr. Yeung and Dr. Mahoney use meticulous suturing techniques and materials designed to fade into the natural contours of the ear over time.

When can I get my ears re-pierced?

Scars typically take about 3 weeks to heal, but up to 1 year to remodel. We generally recommend waiting 6 months before re-piercing your earlobes as the soft tissue has to be strong enough to support the weight of new jewelry.

Can I wear clip-on earrings while I wait for it to heal?

We advise waiting at least 4-6 weeks before clip-on earrings are applied as the pressure can decrease blood flow to the healing incision and potentially cause the repair to fail.

What types of earlobes do you revise?

Many patients come to use with concerns about the stretched, elongated, torn, gauged, or asymmetric earlobes. Each concern is unique and can occur by accidental injury, natural aging, or from years of wearing heavy jewelry. During consultation, Dr. Mahoney and Dr. Yeung will describe their detaied approach on how they will revise your earlobes.

Will my ear shape look "natural" or "notched"?

We pride ourselves in our ability to combine surgical precision while maintaining artistic integrity. A poorly done repair can leave a "V" shaped notch at the bottom. With our techniques, our goal is to revise the earlobe back to a natural, smooth, continuous curve that matches the other ear.
