Breast Reduction

What is breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is about more than just changing your appearance; it is often a life-changing procedure designed to improve your physical comfort and quality of life. By removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, this surgery helps alleviate the chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain often caused by the weight of heavy breasts.

Where will the incisions be placed?

Incisions are typically in the shape of an anchor with incisions around the nipple and at the bottom pole of the breast as an inverted T-shape.

Who are good candidates for breast reduction surgery?

Good candidates for breast reduction surgery include healthy women with, ideally, a body mass index under 35.

What are the risks and complications of surgery?

Risks and complications of a breast reduction include infection, scarring, bleeding, change in lactation, change in sensation, fat necrosis, recurrence, and asymmetry.

What does the timeline of recovery look like?

Your recovery is a journey, and Dr. Mahoney and Dr. Yeung will be with you every step of the way to ensure you are healing beautifully. You can expect a series of follow-up visits designed to monitor your progress at one week, followed by milestones at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after your procedure.

How long do the results last after surgery?

The results of a breast reduction are typically permanent. Your overall size will remain permanently smaller, lighter, and beautifully proportional to your frame. It is important to remember that major weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or natural aging can gradually alter your breast shape and firmness over time, however.
